This site is now a collection of some of my favorite papers from college. They are still pretty raw and reading them now without a deadline and with several thousand more pages read on the subjects, I look at these works as hastily constructed and poorly written but prefer that they remain as is with their grammatical, spelling, and even factual mistakes. Even so, I managed to get my Bachelor's of Science from Central Michigan University majoring in history and minoring in geography with high honors. I'm not making this wiki in an effort to show off my writing, but rather keep myself busy with the subjects I am passionate about since my actual job(s) has nothing at all to do with history or geography. I made most of the these single spaced for this site, but it creates a bigger problem with papers that include graphs and charts so I left them in their double spaced formant. With the exception of the book reviews and a few others, Chicago/Turabian is the style of these papers. If you are one of the rare people that finds any of this content interesting feel free to take a look at it and let me know what you think. Thanks for visiting
We'll start out on the theme of Revolutionary and Napoleonic French history. All of these are from either Harsanyi's 347 or 597 class.
1. Charles François Du Périer Dumouriez (1739-1823): Flee from Terror
A short biography of Dumouriez.
A student essay about Dumouriez and "The Terror." Links to sites and documents for those with further interest in Dumouriez.
The sources used by the founding author of this.
I am happy to announce that this wiki in its original form (only with the Dumouriez content) received 100% for the semester project in Dr. Doina Pasca Harsanyi's : HST 347 The French Revolution - France and the Caribbean area. Now this wiki is for editing and contributions. Please feel free to contribute, preferably with citation. I will be monitoring the content and suggestions of new pages or discussion pages are welcome.
2. This is a review of the memoirs of a Polish officer focusing mostly on the Russian Campaign of 1812.
3. This is one of my favorite marshals, Joachim Murat. He was a very colorful and tragic figure in Napoleonic History. The assignment was to write about a member of Napoleon's entourage.
4. My study of Murat brought me to the subject of the reorganization of Italy which accounts for the modern nation we think of as Italy. The assignment was to write an essay on one of the legacies of Napoleon.
6. This is a book review of a compilation of "Last Letters" by prisoners before their trips to the guillotine during the most extreme part of the Revolution.
8. This is a somewhat related to paper 7 in that it looks at the demographics of two former Yugoslavian states. Unfortunately this paper was actually 5 separate papers that I brought together and in the process some of the charts and tables landed on page breaks and caused large holes and splits where the textwrap feature did not work as I would have liked. Still this is probably one of my favorite papers.
9. These next two are from my Russian history class and I can tell even now that my heart was not in either. Even though the class itself was entertaining with Professor Scherer who looked and acted like George Carlin, it was difficult to find out what he wanted from us in our essays because he would go of on tangents for entire class periods about loosely related subjects.
10.This one and the powerpoint that accompanies it was from my seminar class with Dr. Rutherford. The seminar class is learning the process of making one large paper and there were many steps on the way to this final product (which still has flaws). It is by far the longest paper I did at CMU at 32 pages double spaced and it was well received by my classmates and Dr. Rutherford.
13. This one was a little tricky to write because we were restricted to primary sources so we could only use material that Cicero wrote. With this in mind, the assignment was to find an aspect of his character by just looking at his writing. I was reaching at straws with this one as I tried to analyze how he insulted people.
14. This is an overview of a census tract in Lansing. This one required me to travel to this census tract and walk around observing the neighborhood and talking to its inhabitants.
15. THE LAST PAPER OF MY UNDER GRADUATE CAREER: A local history of the railroads in Montcalm County, Michigan. Written for Timothy O'Neill's 333 Michigan History class at Central Michigan University in the spring of 2011. The paper earned an A and can also be found in the local history room at the Flat River Community Library in Greenville, MI.

5. This is an argumentative paper about the historic necessity of personalities like Napoleon.
6. This is a book review of a compilation of "Last Letters" by prisoners before their trips to the guillotine during the most extreme part of the Revolution.
The rest of the papers are of varying subjects and the classes they are from can be viewed on the cover pages.
7. This is a paper on the historiography of Yugoslavia, meaning it is not so much about Yugoslavia as about how historians have treated the subject.

11. This paper was for a class in traditional China.
12. These are a couple book reviews for a class in modern Germany 1870 to present.
